ABOUT THE CORONAVIRUS

"COVIS-19 is an illness causes by a coronavirus"- Public Health Agency of Canada, 2020

This fast spreading virus is common within humans and can typically be "associated with milk illnesses, similar to the common cold" (PHAC, 2020). Common symptoms of COVID-19 are a cough, high fever or difficulty breathing and may take up to 14 days to appear after the individual has been exposed to the virus. This means that just because someone is not showing symptoms, does not mean that they don't have it and that they could easily spread the virus without knowing. According to PHAC, spreading usually results from the following:

  • respiratory droplets when you cough or sneeze

  • close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands

  • touching something with the virus on it, then touching your eye, nose or mouth without washing your hands first.

The best known ways to prevent spreading include but are not limited to:

  • washing your hands with soap and warm water for 20 seconds

  • avoiding touching any part of your face

  • avoid contact with sick people

  • cover coughs and sneezes with your arm

  • avoid going out in public, especially if you are sick
